Shoebox in other languages [27 Dec 2011|07:15am]

damascened
Hello, I'm a new person so if I do something wrong please tell me.
I just posted this to accio-rs-fics, but seeing as my search is directly Shoebox related, maybe you guys will know something?

So I'm aware of complete translations of Shoebox in Spanish, (http://shoebox-espanol.livejournal.com/), in Italian, (http://jaidajones.altervista.org/sbp.htm) and a translation of the first chapter in Portuguese (http://sbp-portugues.blogspot.com/).
I just want to know if/where I can find either/both
(a) a complete Portuguese translation (or at least more complete than just the first chapter);
(b) Shoebox in any other languages. Seriously, Russian, German...I just want to know ALL the translations.
Thank you,
Dama

eBook Update [03 Dec 2011|12:37am]

tangiblewhimsy
Hey guys, me again!

I apologize, I do not mean to spam the community at all, and this will probably be the last you'll hear from me about the eBook thing BUT THAT BEING SAID

I spent today tidying up and remarking the XHTML for the .epub in Sigil. I would have liked to have found this program a week ago, it would have saved me a great deal of trouble. -__-;

My personal annoyance aside, the 'final' (I use quotes because there may be minor tweaks and edits as time goes on, but no more huge changes or updates in the foreseeable future) version of the eBook in both .epub and .mobi is now available for download here

For those of you who joined the community earlier, it's just the original download page. Pick your server of choice and be on your merry way.

For those of you just joining the party, the files are hosted on my personal community, [info]whimsydownloads. It's members only for copyright reasons, but membership is open and you can click here to join before heading out for download.

Lastly, I would like to extend a huge and sincere thank you to everyone who offered their thanks and support and to those of you who didn't but are reaping the benefits anyway.

Enjoy your holiday season, everyone!

Gauging Community Interest. [26 Nov 2011|09:56pm]

tangiblewhimsy
Greetings, fellow SBP fans!

I've been a fan of The Shoebox Project since it started posting on LJ all the way back in 2004, but I hadn't read any part of it in years. You can imagine my dismay when I went back to reread the chapters only to find that everything has apparently been removed from the original LJ community! Thankfully all of the wonderful writings and images were preserved via .PDF, and I did find the downloads.

Unfortunately, I rather loathe reading .PDF documents. I wasn't too thrilled about the idea of just translating them into word documents either, especially since each part was a separate file.

As such, I have taken it upon myself to build the .PDFs into a single file eBook. I'm not done yet (turns out making eBooks is ridiculously difficult if pictures are in any way involved), but since I am putting so much effort into the work I was curious how many others might be interested in a .epub or .mobi version of The Shoebox Project? You can read .epub on most e-readers and .mobi is the Kindle-friendly format.

All pictures will be included and formatting has been preserved from the .PDF documents as best as is possible.

If there is enough interest I'd love to share with the community.

FIRST OF ALL!

I'm not sure how many of you are on tumblr, but the fuckyeahsbp tumblr is hosting a re-read leading up to Christmas, so you should definitely all get on that, because I'm guessing it's gonna be AWESOME.

So what I'm wondering is does anyone have .doc files? I've been digging around the internet and found plenty of pdfs, but I'd like to be able to shrink the text supertiny to save paper, and it's hard to do that with pdf files. I found some .txt files and those will do wonderfully if I end up using them, but if I remember from my own reading shoebox on my ipod days, they don't have the pictures with them. Correct me if I'm wrong, though.

So yeah. Help?

HAPPY ANNIFIVERY TO CHAT [02 Aug 2011|01:04am]

musicianatheart
Okay, so technically chat is a hair over seven years old, but I like to count in CCE (current chat era) which counts from the posting of chapter 25, which was July 31 2006. (Don't get me wrong, I was part of Old Chat too and I don't look down on it or anything, but it was of a decidedly different group of people and a different overall personality than CCE. And I like to claim credit for creating CCE (see icon).) SO. Chat turned five years old on what would be Harry's 31st birthday, and I didn't even think to check what the date would be til the next day. But anyway, the main point is, YAY US, HOW THE HELL ARE WE THIS OLD. And at the same time, I think we really are a bunch of five year olds some days, so maybe it's apt.

For those of you who have no earthly idea what I'm talking about, there is a chat room for shoeboxers on AIM, and obviously has been for quite a long time. Every once in a while one of us (often me, but sometimes I delegate) comes in here yelling about how we want new people, so even if you've never come in you probably recognise us, unless you're really new, in which case, WELCOME AND WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL OUR LIVES. I am Liz, often known as Chat Momma, since it was my rabid inviting of people that kept chat together once the shiny of the new chapter wore off. Now we actually don't talk about shoebox much, but we are a family, one that always welcomes new members. We've been kind of quiet this summer, but it would be fantastic if you could come in and say hi sometime. Timezones can be funky, so if no one is there when first you visit, maybe try again some other time; most of us are in the US and thus follow (sometimes) those time zones, but we also have a couple brits and a handful of aussies, so you never know when there may be an active chat.

Instructions to get into chat are here at our own comm. If you come in and the only person there is funnification (that is me!) and I am not responding, do not panic. I have been in the habit of staying in chat even when i am sleeping or away from my computer. Eventually I will return, and if you are gone I may add your name to my invite list if I saw you come in, which is the best way to get in and know someone is there. I LOVE mass invites!

....tl;dr: we have a chat, we just had a birthday, come join us! =D

(Minor spoilers for the new movie)

I was just wondering what anyone thought of the way Yates handled Remus and Tonks in Deathly Hollows, Part Two. What I found interesting was that he never actually had them touch- during the battle, they were reaching for each other, but couldn't quite reach. When you see them among the dead, though both of their hands are off the cots, they don't touch either. I find this interesting because Yates is also the one who gave us Order of the Phoenix- not my favorite, but it does have a lot Remus/Sirius subtext. Also, I never really liked Tonks (to this day, I feel as though she forced Remus into marrying her, but that's a discussion for another day).

So yeah, did anyone else notice that? What did you think of it?

Harry Potter lives on through fan fiction
By Michelle Miller

(CBS News) Few fictional characters have the magic of Harry Potter. He's sold 450 million books worldwide and drawn thousands of people to New York for the American premiere of his final movie. CBS News correspondent Michelle Miller introduces us to some spellbound fans who refuse to let Potter's story end.
Harry Potter creator J.K. Rowling wrote the final chapter of the seven-book series in 2007. But since then, tens of thousands of amateur authors have picked up the tale, among them Jaida Jones. Writers like her pen new Potter plots on dozens of websites, often spinning new stories about the characters.

Photos: "Deathly Hallows: Part 2" premiere

"Their imaginations run rampant," she said. "Instead of keeping it in their heads, they're like I have this hilarious idea and I'm going to write it down and share it."

Jones read her first Potter book at age 11. By college she and a friend had co-authored The Shoebox Project, a history of the fictional Hogwarts school of magic.

"In the end, you know it was just our story," she said, "and I don't think anyone other than J.K. Rowling can know exactly what the truth of the characters is. But we as readers get a feeling for that truth and we want to be a part of their lives."

Fan fiction started in the 19th century, with stories and parodies based on "Alice in Wonderland," Sherlock Holmes, and even Jane Austen. Then came the sci-fi follow-ups to "Star Trek" and "Star Wars" movies.

But fan fiction really exploded with the Internet. One fan fiction website, FanFiction.net, has 2 million stories posted. Some 500,000 of them are based on Harry Potter.

"It's huge," said Emerson Spartz, who launched the fan Web-site MuggleNet when he was just 12 years old.

"Harry Potter was the gateway drug for books for a generation. I think with the power of the Internet combined with the intricate and detailed world that J.K. Rowling created also helped to catalyze a generation of writers."

The point of fan fiction is not to make money, but to share the stories -- and keep the magic alive.

Author J.K. Rowling doesn't seem to mind. This fall, she'll launch her own website Pottermore, which may offer even more fan fiction fodder well after the last credit rolls on the big screen.

Introduction thingy [09 Jan 2011|11:45pm]

miss_sabre
Hey, long time lurker, here, and, as long as I've lurked here and never said anything, I've been a fan of shoebox even longer. Not sure why I'm picking now to poke my head out from the shadows, but hello!

Name: Verly

Age: 20 (and still having a hard time believing it)

Location: Southern Oregon, although I'm from Seattle.

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox?
Er... When did the fourth one come out? It was right after that, but I read them about a million and one times before the fifth one came out, so it feels like much longer. Also, "before Shoebox" seems like such a strange and mystical time, like saying "before harry potter" or "before the internet."

How did you find Shoebox?

A couple of my friends were geeking out over it one summer, quoting it all over the place, like "your duck is slipping," and "I do believe in commas, I do, I do!" They finally convinced me to read it, and here I am.

Who is your favourite Shoebox character?

In order to answer this question, I have to explain that I have a theory about this world: There are the Sirius', and the Remus', and I fall under either category depending on who I'm with.
Sometimes I like Remus best, because I identify with his awkward, overthinky, academic nature, and I just want to give him a great big hug. Although, sometimes it's those days I like Sirius best...
Other times, usually when I'm with the Remus' of my life, I identify with Sirius more. I adopt a similar carefree attitude about the silliest things, and take on the role of the spontaneous one. And then my favorite one is-
You know what? I like them both. They are both my favorites.

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment?
I might have to go with the whole Halloween chapter- the tea leaves!- but that might be because I still remember sitting in my best friends room reading that one aloud. I am also particularly fond of the chapter where the maurauders map can't get Kingsley Shacklebolt's name right, and Remus and Sirius are trying so hard to get together and snog.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote?
"I do believe in commas, I do, I do!"
Although, that might be because I just recently reread that chapter.

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments?
Oh lordy, yes. I'm forcing my boyfriend to read Shoebox, just so that he can understand when I start giggling for no apparent reason.

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox?:
Tango, acting, baking, roleplaying, reading, writing.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
I'm a college student, always trying to case out new people to discover if they're as geeky as I am. I haven't quite found them here yet, but I have faith that I will. In the meantime, I've turned to the internet for my dosages of geekiness.

SBP aloud [06 Jan 2011|06:24pm]

smurfb1ue
Way back during what feels like eight million years ago, there were folks who read SBP aloud for those of us who like listening. I'm not quite sure what's happened with that, but, wanting to listen to more than just the first few (I think I have up through six or so plus James's birthday), I borrowed a digital recorder from my university and put it to good use by recording several chapters. I've got parts 12-16 and 23 done thus far and wanted to offer them up to anyone who might be interested. I'm by no means a fantastic reader--Jim Dale need not fear the loss of his job--but thought some people might enjoy them anyways. My computer's fantastically slow at uploading to mediafire, so I've only uploaded part twelve thus far in case no one wants access.

Here's part twelve.

Part thirteen. (Serious apologies for the world's saddest attempt at Remus Doolittle)

Part fourteen

Part fifteen

& part sixteen (Having just relistened to this, I've realized there are a few obnoxious high pitched beeps at the end of the tenth section that'll have to be redone.  I'll post the reread section after I reread it.)

Let me know if you want me to upload the rest that I have/record. If there are other parts already floating around the internet, I'd love to know about them so I don't do something that's already been done. Is there a place where everything's compiled or could we start one?

BECAUSE A CULT IS NOT ENOUGH [07 Dec 2010|02:45pm]

So, usually when you see me hanging around the cult, I am advertising for shoeboxchat. sometimes in cracktastic capslock. But that is not the case today. (though if you want to come, we would love to have you!) Today I am talking about a clan. You say 'liz, why do we need a clan, we are a cult!' Mary says 'liz, you already made a clan, you are momma shoebox!' I say psh. I made a KINGDOM OF LOATHING clan. So this is just to say that if there are any others of you KoL obsessed people out there, there is a clan named shoebox now! and I am its fearless (sometimes) leader. We would welcome you among our ranks!

How can I contact Jaida and Rave? [23 Nov 2010|07:59pm]

nataliaotto

Hello, shoeboxers!

I’m from Porto Alegre, Brazil, and a huge fan of SBP. Unfortunately, there’s not a version in portuguese, so I’d like to ask Jaida and Rave’s permission to translate it. The sad thing is I can’t contact them! I’ve tried Jaida’s livejournal (ladyjaida), facebook and her professional e-mail (jaida@jonesandbennett.com – the message I send always fails and it says ‘it can’t be send’). I tried Rave’s e-mail (slasheyed@gmail.com) but also got no answer.

Does any of you guys know some other way to contact them?

Brazilian fandom is enormous, but sadly only a few people can read in english. A portuguese version of Shoebox would make lots of fans really happy, I’m so sad I can’t get their permission. If anyone can help, I’d really appreciate it.

You can contact me in the e-mail nataliab.otto@gmail.com, if you want to.

Thanks for your time!
Love,
Natália

Oh wow I have not been here in years. HOW IS IT GOING Y'ALL.

I am here to ask--any of you guys know where I can find .htm files of all the chapters of SBP? Or, like, some form of the chapters that aren't .pdfs? I have all the .pdfs downloaded but I have this weird aversion to reading .pdf files on my computer and I don't want to be that jerk who uses the school printers to print all twenty-six chapters of a Harry Potter fic... SO PLEASE I AM BEGGING YOU. I want to reread Shoebox so much. It's been at least three or four years and the time is RIPE.

hello dear sbp cult-ists, [04 Oct 2010|01:03am]

Please forgive me, I haven't been on LJ in an exceedingly long time, and I'm desperate ~

Two things:

1. I'm looking for an extremely beautiful Sirius (/Remus?)  webcomic I found quite some time ago, but lost when my computer crashed & lost my bookmarks. I remember parts of it were painted, others were just graphite, but it was superb and very realistic. Does anyone have any ideas as to what or where it is?

2. I was told (by a link) there was an fyeahSBP tumblr, but can't find it on Tumblr at all! It says source not found every time I try the link posted to this page. WHY is this happening?? It would be a beautiful thing if there was such a thing, just saying.

Thank you dearly,

Me again! sorryy... [30 Sep 2010|01:30pm]

I seem to keep thinking of things to post on here recently! This will hopefully be the last one for a bit lol :P

So, I was just wondering how many people (if any) play what I like to call The Shoebox Game. This started off when my shoeboxy friend and I used to have little competitions with each other. When we were talking to someone be would see who could sneak the most shoebox quotes into the conversation.
I've gone to university now but I find I'm still playing it on my own, she just gets a text every time i get one :P

For example, today I was discussing my love of tea with a friend whilst in starbucks and i said 'you know, if someone did one of those knee jerk reaction texts on me, I would probably just shout "How many sugars do you take in your tea?!"'
Last night it was suggested a quiche be thrown at someone (I was at a meeting with a free buffet and bar). I couldnt miss an oppurtunity like that, so i turned to someone and said "you know, I threw a quiche at someone once, but it was okay in the end - i was very apologetic. I am a lady and a quiche destroyer both." :D

So yeah, just wondering if anyone else has managed to get any awesome quotes into conversations with non-shoeboxers? If you dont already do this, I suggest you try. It is actually rather a lot of fun :)

UM. HI EVERYONE. I am really really embarrassingly belated to this, but I figured, hey, it wouldn't hurt to know a few more Potter nerds, right? ;D

Name: Milo, Miles for now, because my legal name is girly and revolting.

Age: 18 in like, three months. (WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN)

Location: The liberal bubble of Kentucky. /OBLIGATORY 'NOT A HICK' NOTE GOES HERE

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox?
Hahaha, um. Second...grade? Or so. I remember being bullied because I didn't read it, age 7, so, yeah. XD
IT'S SO WEIRD, I've been continually in love with this series for eleven years now. That's practically a marriage. Marriage? Relationship, something. I still love HP in ridiculous ways. 8D
Oh god, what did I just type.

How did you find Shoebox?
Through LJ a few years back, and FOR WHATEVER REASON (IDEK) didn't read it until a few months back. SUCH A WASTE OF A FEW YEARS, siriusly seriously.

Who is your favourite Shoebox character?
Dear god. Uh, probably Remus- Lupin's one of my favorites in the books, anyway.
Plus, chocolate. And things.

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment?
Fuck, uh, how can I possibly choose? The first chapter, and the scene where the gang have their respective animal-brain are pretty fantabulous, though.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote?
As one of you guys said below, it's like asking to choose between your children. Children who don't annoy you and/or do amusing things when you leave them alone for a few minutes and who don't screech when you're trying to sleep.

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments?
Oh god, yeah. I want to hear about other peoples' though, just for comparison, haha.

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox?:
Film photography, being a hippie (c'mon), writing, swimming, biking, having...general exploration-related adventures, being a total nerd about...everything, lmao.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
I'm...LGBTQ-friendly, a vegan, and...dying my hair blue tomorrow? Something.

Just realised I forgot to tell you guys about the amazing tropical holiday me and my fellow shoeboxer went on! (If by tropical, you mean Devonshire, and I do).

just had to get that one in there :P

yeah so my friend and I went to Devon and it was awesome :D we also happened upon a little town named Ottery St. Catchpole Mary!
Then we went climbing the tors and having a few Hounds of the Baskervilles moments.

It was a very nerdy holiday.

Unfortunately, no McGoogles sightings to report :(

We took a disposable camera with us (the shoebox camera) which we used to recreate lots of shoebox scenes and just generally take nerdy photos so i cant wait for those to be developed lol (there may also be some of me in my remus outfit on there.... ahem)

Thought I'd let you guys know. This post was a lot longer than it was meant to be :S sorry for rambling guys!

We are launching on August 1st featuring prose, poetry, art, and an interview from Lady Jaida Jones and Danielle Bennett! I'm sure most of you are familiar with and/or have read their Havemercy books, so you should check their books out and our magazine ASAP.

Please Help! It will only take a few seconds... [09 Jul 2010|11:31pm]

(Okay mods I hope you don't mind this, if you do then take it down. I'm just trying to spread the awareness of this as far as possible. This ends on Monday, so if it could stay up until then I would be so appreciative!)

Have you ever heard of the Harry Potter Alliance? Well, it's this amazing charity that uses Harry Potter as a means to help people relate to current world issues. It's basically like a Dumbledore's Army for the real world.

~After Haiti, the HPA and the Nerdfighters raised enough money (over $123,000) to send five planes full of supplies to help those hurt in the disaster!
~Every March they have a book drive and have donated over 55,000 books to Rwanda, the Mississippi Delta and to local communities worldwide!
~On election years they sign up new voters at Wrock concerts and in 2008 they registered over 900 first time voters!
~Increase Mass Equality’s calls to Maine voters to protect marriage equality by over 1200% in one day with over 3500 calls!

And RIGHT NOW they are competing to win $250,000. It take 30 seconds to vote at here  and we can do SO MUCH GOOD with the money.

After you go here you...
1. Click “Get started to vote” (the second green button, top right)
2. Allow Access and then click “Like”
3. Click “Vote now” (green button, top right)

And you're done! I know it sounds complicated, but I swear it's not! You don't have to worry about security, Chase as a really good privacy policy and the HPA doesn't get any of your information. Where will that money go? Find out here! And more about the Harry Potter Alliance here.

"The contest ends on Monday, July 13th at 12:00 am EST. The Harry Potter Alliance is currently in first place, but other organizations are catching up fast and unless you help, we will not remain in first place for long. This is your chance to be a part of real change, and voting is a free and easy way to show your support for literacy, LGBT rights, and the power of fan activism. With this funding, the Harry Potter Alliance will be able to expand its reach exponentially, donate thousands more books to children who desperately need them, and continue to work to support LGBT rights."

And if you don't have a Facebook, or don't want to vote, will you at least pass the link on to those you think might vote?

(x-posted like whoa, sorry for the spam to your flists...)

I saw that just a few months back somebody had asked about reading shoebox on their Kindle, but does anyone have the B&N nook? I just got one and I tried to put the straight PDF files of shoebox on it, but the text came out super tiny and when I went to enlarge the text then the pictures seemed to disappear completely. Any ideas for me??

Thanks!

Kindle? [05 Apr 2010|09:31pm]

Ahoy folks. Does anyone here have a Kindle? If so, have you tried to put the SBP pdfs on there at all? I'm thinking of getting a Kindle (and putting a lot of fanfiction on it, to be honest >_> ) and have heard the pdf support is not so good. Apparently you can convert a pdf to a Kindle file but you lose images, which as we all know are rather essential for enjoying the project to its fullest.

Alternately, anyone with a Kindle want to give it a quick review? :P

I've been a member of this community a while now, so I figured it was about time I introduce myself!

Name: Faeriejewel (Julia)

Age: 24

Location: Massachusetts

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox?
Not entirely sure, though I can say that I discovered Shoebox during college. At the time, Shoebox and HP were both still works in progress. They may have merged in my mind...

How did you find Shoebox?
Fellow LJ friends who'd discovered it first. Those geniuses.

Who is your favourite Shoebox character?
Well, as a former writing tutor/current editor, I identify most with Remus. But I love them all, so I'm going to go with James and his ridiculous attempts to woo Lily.

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment?
The first time the boys try to transform into animals and Remus has to babysit/save Lily.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote?
So many favorites! I think I'll go with one of the first lines in the first part: "James has got his head stuck in a window, what the hell." It's the perfect setup for all the hilarious chaos that occurs after.

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments?
Have I not told my (confused) writers to repeat this after me? "I do believe in commas. I do, I do!"

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox?:
What?! There's life outside Shoebox? Well, I guess I can admit to being a bookaholic and a medievalist.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Rereading Shoebox has carried me through long periods of boredom on the bus and at work. At my job as a textbook editor, I often read PDFs on my computer screen. SBP fit right in! And as for suspicious coworkers...I pretended that laughing at my screen is perfectly normal. I've also considered slipping Shoebox into the middle of one of my books ready to be published. Because it really should be!

iPod Shoebox!!! [14 Feb 2010|04:48pm]

princessnothing
Here's the post about getting Shoebox files on your ipod that I posted last year.

Because we seem to be having difficulties with the whole "Shoebox on my iPod thing" here is a step-by-step process that worked (at least for me).

1) go to this link: http://rapidshare.com/files/21728531/ipod_zip_files.zip.html OR this brand new link: http://www.mediafire.com/file/hmyzhycy2zd/ipod_zip_files.zip
and download the zipped file.

2) upzip the first folder which will give you a bunch of zipped folders for the chapters.

3) unzip each chapter (when I did this, it gave me a new folder for each unzipped chapter).

4) move all the unzipped chapters into a separate folder (may i suggest renaming it "Shoebox Unzipped").

5) plug your iPod into your computer.

6) open "My Computer" and click on the drive where your iPod shows up (NOT in iTunes).

7) four folders should show up, one of them will be "Notes."

8) copy the unzipped chapters from the separate folder into the "Notes" folder.

9) unplug iPod and go to "Extras," then "Notes," and then you should see "Instructions" and "whatever you named the unzipped folder."

10) when I first went to look at them, it took a while to load all the notes, but be patient, they will show up if you did this correctly.

I'm looking for SBP in ipod notes format to get me through some long train journeys-- I know there's a zipped file on rapidshare but my computer HATES rapidshare. Would anyone be willing to re-upload that zip to mediafire or megaupload?

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox?
About 10 years. I only discovered this in July 2009...

How did you find Shoebox?

i don't even remember, but it was a wonderful day.

Who is your favourite Shoebox character?

Remus, a thousand times, Remus. Sirius is a very close second.

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment?
The first chapter, the one with the note war, and the one with the first appearance of Prewett twins. i love those guys.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote?
"You can't murder a book. Even I know that. But you know what you can do with a book, what you can do is burn it, or throw it out a window, or draw, mm, big hairy moustaches on all the ancient illustrations, and blacken the teeth of the women and children, and--"
"Oh God, don't. It's like talking about drowning babies. You are a terrible person." - Sirius and Remus

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments?
My life is a giant combination of shoebox moments and Draco 'A Very Potter Musical' malfoy. it is glorious and awkward and i guess good times.

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox?:
reading other things, some Harry Potter related and some not. dancing, exercising, singing, watching cartoon movies, trying to convince my mother that Remus/Sirius is completely and totally canon

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?

Of course, there's a full and very reasonable explanation that
mostly does not involve me being drunk. Don't look at me like that!

Thank you,
No. Thank you shoebox.

How did you find Shoebox?
My friend and fellow Potter-geek just after we'd seen Half-Blood Prince

Who is your favourite Shoebox character?
Its got to be Remus. Sirius is a close second.

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment?
HOW CAN I CHOOSE?! Thats like asking someone to choose between their children.
The first chapter is probably one of my favourites though; its HILARIOUS.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote?
Again; CHILDREN

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments?
My life is one great big disaster of shoebox moments as it is. This however, makes them slightly more enjoyable.

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox?:
What? You mean like NOT shoebox?? Well, Harry Potter obviously but... wow... that happens?

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
OXFORD. MONKEYWRENCH. AARDVARK. CHECK PLEASE.

Shoebox Chat! [07 Jan 2010|01:28am]

aussiegirl578
Oh behalf of all the Shoeboxchatters out there, I invite you into the fold.

Shoebox chat, a thriving tropical paradise of... well no, not really. (If by tropical, you mean Devonshire, and I don't.) We're not a specific location. We are a group of people from America, Norway, Australia, England, and the far off place called 'New York'. And we're all united together in a common love for Shoebox, which is mentioned in the chat room at least once every three months.

For the most part Shoeboxchat isn't about Shoebox, it's more about funtimes. Once you're in chat, we're your family. (We have a family tree!) We'll listen to your problems, (cat ate the computer wires, newspaper ate your mother) and we'll help solve them, often times with obscure quotes and promises of never delivered nudity.

We're up for a chat about anything, no, really. ANYTHING. Until the capslockitain pirates attack. Or we get invaded by guinea pigs. Or the zombie invasion starts. You should know, this happens quite a lot. Funtimes are had by all.

The problem is, we haven't had any new people in a long time. We've killed off sacrificed had most of the new people disappear, and we're getting lonely. You should come join us. You won't regret it.

The aim room is 'shoebox'. If you don't quite know how to get there, you should try this guide, put together by chatmomma, Liz. How To Get To Shoebox Chat

So yeah, I hope to see you all in there.

Portable SBP [27 Dec 2009|06:42pm]

analia_i
All right, team! For those of you that have printed off the project, how did you go about it? I love having my favourite fanfictions in "real book" format thanks to Cafepress's book printing, but the images that are so essential in SBP make that more difficult. Making the images small enough to fit in a 5x7ish book distorts them so much even on my computer that I haven't even tried that route for this particular fic. Years ago I printed off things on 8.5x11 pages and then kept them in a binder, but that is hardly practical for taking along to read during a lunch break.

So. Any ideas? Much appreciated if someone sees something obvious I'm missing ^_^

How long were you a Harry Potter fan before discovering Shoebox?
Ten years. Oh wow. I feel old.

How did you find Shoebox?
Honestly, I think it was Facebook flair. I was searching either "Remus" or "Sirius" and kept finding little quotes I could not comprehend. Finally Googled it.

Who is your favourite Shoebox character?
How is one supposed to actually choose? I love Remus in all his bookish, terrified glory, but then again, I love Sirius and his complete and somewhat disturbing lack of sanity and common sense, and of course I love James for being helplessly, pathetically in love with Lily. Although, I do have a soft spot for Hector, too...

Which is your favorite Shoebox chapter/scene/moment?
Mistletoe. Pretty much any instance where mistletoe made an appearance.

What is your favourite Shoebox quote?
Oh, good God. Um... "What should be the issue at hand is that your soul seems to smell like burnt puppy."

Are you already having those infamous Shoebox moments?
Probably not, as I am somewhat confused as to what a Shoebox moment is.

What hobbies do you have OUTSIDE of Shoebox?
Can I just say the English language? I'm rather fond of it. Music, too. And driving.

Anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself?
Well, like I've said, I am deeply, deeply ashamed that I have not discovered this sooner. But, ah well, I know the joy of Shoebox now. Lovely to know there's a community of us somewhat obsessive folk.

This actually has nothing to do with cabbage, since we all know that none of us (or even Remus for that matter) are anyone's cabbages before ten in the morning.

The point, you ask? Well, I recently took myself aside and asked, "Shoebox? You loved that! Whatever happened, m'dear?"

So that prompted a reaffirmation of my own faith in the project, and I thought that perhaps as a community we could do the same thing!

And so therefore, and all that, I pose a conundrum, a question if you will:

What made you first fall in love with Shoebox, and what are some of your favorite things about being a wild fanatic fan?

thanks everyone <3

Fanmix Project [23 Aug 2009|10:23pm]

hold_onhope
Hey 'Boxers! I'd like to propose an idea - I little music project, if you will.

After downloading some of the classic Shoebox fanmixes mentioned a bit ago in this post, I thought it might be fun to have the community put together it's own mix.

Sadly [info]jukebox_project is slowly dying, but obviously we had a lot of songs that remind us of our lovely Shoebox, enough so that there's a sizable backlog over there!

So, I propose that everyone reply to this entry with your favorite songs that remind you of Shoebox. Not a ton, just one or two. It can remind you of the Project as a whole, or a certain character, a certain pairing, a certain scene. I'd be willing to compile a fanmix that can be ours - the penultimate list of Shoebox related songs recommended by the most obsessed dedicated of it's fans: the [info]cult_sbp-ers!

If you have download links to your songs or to anyone else's suggestions, that would be WONDERFUL. Here's a template for posting your songs in the comments, just to make things easier for me.

Depending on how many suggestions this gets, I might make a poll to narrow down the list into a concise fanmix.

I know there are some talented people here, so if anyone is willing to create album art once the songs are selected, let me know.

Thoughts/suggestions are welcome!

(Mods, can we make this entry for members only? If download links are provided there will be some, er, illegal activity going on. Not that the Marauders wouldn't be proud of our delinquency, but it's always nice to play safe.)
